Composer Achint explains how he created the slick score for ‘Scam 1992.' Posted on 4 Jun, 2021
Achint Thakkar, guitarist, vocalist, and producer, had only one EP under his belt as the creator of the psychedelic rock band Rosemary a decade ago. Since then, he's been quietly taking on more commercial ventures while still concocting a thumping, dramatic sound for his solo project, drawing inspiration from musicians all around the world. “Even back then, I was used to projects taking six to seven years to complete. “Either the financing would be withdrawn or the projects would never get off the ground,” the composer says of his film score work.
That appears to have changed for Thakkar, and in such a significant year as 2020. His soundtrack for the series Scam 1992 — a thrilling, highly acclaimed crime/drama that depicts Mumbai billionaire Harshad Mehta's rise and collapse - was released to a broader audience earlier this month, with the dazzling, peppy opening theme amassing over seven million streams. Thakkar is almost speechless when he hears the statistics. “Oh my god, that's weird. Nobody expected it to go off the rails. Even the show's success surprised us... we expected only a few people would enjoy it.”
